stagnation pressure
This term is a technical specification used primarily in fluid dynamics and aerodynamics. It describes the total pressure at a point where the fluid velocity is zero, typically at the tip of a pitot tube. It is distinct from static pressure, which is the pressure of the fluid as it moves, and dynamic pressure, which relates to the fluid's kinetic energy.
In practical application, the term is almost exclusively used in engineering and physics contexts. It is not used in general conversation to describe "stagnant" air or water in a biological or environmental sense, but rather refers to a specific mathematical sum of pressures in a flow field.
